Can you believe it’s been 20 years since we saw the last Eldorado? Well, the company is not bringing back this legend yet, although it was stealing the show for nearly 50 years. Sorry for the disappointment, but the 2023 Cadillac Eldorado is not happening, from today’s perspective.
The nameplate was introduced in 1953. Lowriders were very popular. Even nowadays, some productions are sought-after. But, the decline started when the Eldorado changed its original shape. During the 80s, sedans were taking over the market. Chevrolet and Cadillac started producing new models. Still, Eldorado survived until 2002, when it was discontinued.
The situation nowadays is not the best for such a vehicle. The sedan class is not standing well. Most manufacturers are into SUVs and crossovers since the demand is very high for those vehicles. General Motors even discontinued an iconic Chevy Impala a couple of years ago. Some say it can be back as the limited edition with SuperSport package in 2023. Nevertheless, we can’t say it for the 2023 Cadillac Eldorado.
The Future Is Not Bright
General Motors is going the same way as its archrivals – Ford. The Blue Oval manufacturer already discontinued almost every sedan in the US. The demand for such cars is declining. GM cut off the Impala after a few years not admitting this is unavoidable. So, in the era where you make more room for SUVs and trucks, by removing sedans from production, what’s the chance to see some old nameplate coming back? Very, very tiny.
Chevrolet made a few returns with Blazer and Trailblazer. But again, those are vehicles that belong to popular segments. Changing the nature of the 2023 Cadillac Eldorado and making it a truck or a crossover is not such a good move. Old fans would like to see something classic besides the name. We can read rumors about the comebacks of El Camino, but articles about the comeback of the Eldorado are very rare. Our insiders don’t have any clue about its return. It seems like a closed case.

The Hope is Still There
The nameplate was out for 5 decades. It is impossible to forget it and ignore the marks this car left in history. The comeback would draw big attention. But, in the long term, the 2023 Cadillac Eldorado wouldn’t be a profitable move for General Motors. Currently, the focus is on electrification. The Eldorado could become an EV car, but it again harms the heritage. A V8 is something the new car must offer. Without it, the revival is just a return of the nameplate, nothing else.

Having all this in mind, the final conclusion would be that the 2023 Cadillac Eldorado is not coming back. However, the existence of rumors is making fans and enthusiasts dig deeper, looking for any new updates. Most of them will tell you that this story ended in 2002, and the Eldorado is remaining the legend. We will still look for the classic editions from the 50s and 60s.
I would love to see this car in the next future. I would not be bother me if it was electric since that’s the way things going. to be in near future. I love that style, very slick, old school to new school. Hope to see it.
