It’s been 25 years since the last edition of the Buick Skylark. The nameplate was in production for 45 years, since 1953. Now, the carmaker has a new concept and insiders are reporting the 2024 Buick Skylark is coming back. The official statement is still missing. Fans are already making renders and they see the new Skylark behind every camouflaged car. One thing has sense – the 70th anniversary can be commemorated with the new model.
It is still a big mystery what will the 2024 Buick Skylark look like and even if the car will be out. We don’t know where to put it, since there are no too many choices. Skylark is not a muscle car, and GM stopped the production of convertibles a long time ago. Even Skylark evolved into a 4-door sedan in the final generation. Now, this segment is also losing the battle against versatile SUVs. The most likely outcome is to bring the 2024 Skylark as an all-electric vehicle.
Buick Skylark Through the Years
The first Skylark was produced in 1953, as the 50th-anniversary mark of the GM. The next appearance the vehicle had in 1961 with a new body and engine configurations. A 2-door layout drew the attention and the vehicle became pretty popular. The third version of the Skylark is called the “First Generation”. The car shared the architecture with other similar vehicles by General Motors. The most popular were Pontiac Tempest and Chevrolet Chevelle. Also, a V6 engine replaced a V8 in the base trim level.
The next generation appeared in 1968 as the 2-door hardtop car or 4-door sedan. In 1973, the company renamed the vehicle to Apollo, but the old nameplate was back after only two seasons. The X-Body architecture underpinned the Skylark from 1981. A 2.8-liter V6 engine was the highlight for all vehicles using this platform. The next two editions of the car continued the evolution, until the final edition in 1998.
The Comeback
The 70th anniversary is the perfect excuse to bring back this iconic car. We can say that after 45 years in production. But, the car segment is not as popular as before. Buyers are opting for more versatile SUVs and crossovers. Still, fans would like to see the Skylark back in the market.
Then again, General Motors is in the big electrification process and new vehicles appear every now and then. The 2024 Buick Skylark EV is one of the rumors we can find about upcoming models. Buick is also in a very bad position. There are no too many vehicles remaining in the US. Even the production is moved to South Korea. Now, you can find 4 different SUVs only. But, two more electric concepts are also presented on the official website. The Wildcat EV can be named Skylark, some sources claim. On the other hand, Buick is becoming more popular in other markets, especially in China. There, buyers can purchase models unavailable in the US, such as Electra, Century, GL8, Regal, Verano…
2024 Buick Skylark Interior and New Technology
Not only the exterior but also the cabin of the 2024 Buick Skylark is a big mystery. It depends on the vehicle’s type and size, but General Motors will deploy the latest technologies and gadgets for infotainment, entertainment and safety systems. If the car becomes an EV, it will definitely get a high level of autonomous drive, probably through the Ultra Cruise feature. Also, as a 2-door car, it is should be way more attractive. However, the key is in practicality. So, if the 2024 Skylark comes back, it will have 4 doors. Buick is considered as a brand closer to the luxury segment, so upscale materials will be waiting inside the Skylark.
2024 Buick Skylark Specs
Another question – what will be under the hood of the 2024 Buick Skylark? Maybe nothing, if the car is an EV. The battery will be positioned under the seats, leaving the front trunk empty as another storage option. But, what if engineers deploy some of the conventional drivetrains with internal combustion? More and more V8 units are being dropped by all carmakers. Only big vehicles are using big plants. Speaking of cars, V8s are powering muscle cars.
When Will 2024 Buick Skylark be Available?
This might be the first question to answer. The 2024 Buick Skylark is just a rumor for now and thanks to its long history, fans are repeatedly bringing those speculations back. For now, there are no signs that Skylark is coming back. But, we could witness a few notable returns of old nameplates. Chevrolet brought back Blazer, you can also find Ford Bronco again, and Toyota revived Supra. The Skylark would be an interesting addition, especially with the market becoming boring with overcrowding SUVs and crossovers.
