One muscle car’s loss is another pony car’s gain. Or – Chevrolet Camaro will be discontinued next year; the 2025 Chevy Impala SS takes place. Two iconic muscle cars will be switched. The company is trying to revive the dying class, but it seems like an impossible mission. Not only Camaro, but also Dodge Charger and Challenger, and Ford Mustang are not being sold in the same volume as before. The versatility of SUVs and crossovers is something pony cars can’t deal with.
But, let’s go back to the 2025 Chevy Impala SS. The SuperSport badge is reserved only for a few vehicles. The Camaro SS is the longest-serving model in this family. Others come and go. Currently, you will also find the Blazer SUV with this package. If you dip into rumors, there will be even more speculations about future upgrades. But those are only fans’ wishes.
The SS badge obliges Chevrolet Impala to make tons of improvements over the base version. First and the most important is the engine. Of course, the Impala SS is getting a high-output V8 unit. Or not? GM is electrifying the entire lineup. An electric muscle car would be something new. Definitely, the idea is drawing attention already.
2025 Chevy Impala SS Muscle Car Powertrain
There are three possibilities we see likely for the 2025 Chevy Impala SS. The sedan in the ultimate form is going to take a high-performance V8 engine. A twin-turbo 4.2-liter displacement is available for the Cadillac CT6 V Series luxury sedan. With 550 hp and 627 lb-ft, it would be a perfect match for the new Impala.
A 6.2-liter V8 is much larger and less efficient. In its naturally-aspirated form, the engine crates 455 hp for the Camaro. Well, it didn’t work, so the company will probably drop it and rather downtune a twin-turbo 4.2-liter mill to get the same output. On the other hand, the maximum power of a V8 is close to 700 hp. For the Camaro ZL1, we have 650 horsepower, while the Cadillac Escalade V Series squeezes 680 ponies. Impala SS might go after the high-end version.
Electric Pony Car
Last but not least interesting configuration is all-electric. With the Camaro being out, we must think of radical changes. Muscle cars with classic petrol engines don’t work anymore. The future of the automotive industry is in batteries. The 2025 Chevy Impala SS would be a high-end version with multiple batteries, probably a dual-motor, or even with a tri-motor configuration. The focus will be on the performance and such EV can sprint 0-60 mph in less than 2 seconds. With no official statements, spy photos and prototypes on the streets, we highly doubt the car will be out in 2024.
2025 Chevy Impala SS Concept, Competition, Price
There are some renders of the new Impala, but all of them are fans’ artwork. The vehicle is imagined as the combination of existing and future concepts. The SS is a high-end model with plenty of upgrades, not only the engine. We can find sporty appearance, hood, spoilers, wheels, etc. The new 2025 Chevy Impala SS would compete with Ford Mustang GT and Dodger Charger and Challenger in the SRT variants. The price of these vehicles is pretty high. Not too many buyers are willing to pay more than $80k for a muscle car. German luxury sedans are available in the same range, as well as some big, cozy and powerful SUVs.
If you bring back the Chevy Impala SS you should make it available as a convertible as well as sedan. The missing card right now in the entire country is a family sized convertible. Drop the center console and make it a six seater to accommodate the average family.
