The truck is versatile. Here, we are talking about a half-tone model, while you can also find Silverado HD trucks in Series 2 and 3. You can choose between drivetrains, cabin and bed configurations, and trim levels. The ZR2 is yet to debut, or any performance-oriented package that can compete with Ram TRX and Ford Raptor R.
All in all, the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado will be an excellent all-arounder with plenty of towing capability. Also, fans want to see an off-road specialist. The Colorado ZR2 is one of the best pickups in difficult terrains. But, the company was not so interested in carrying over the 4×4 package to the larger sibling.

The mid-cycle update is still not confirmed. But, the 2025 Chevy Silverado electric could lead the way. The new platform supports the EV configuration and the truck will compete with Ford F-150 Lightning, and eventually Ram 1500 Electric.
General Motors is electrifying everything. We already have a few crossovers and SUVs at dealerships with Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC badges. One of the highlights is definitely the Hummer EUT. It is smaller than the Silverado Electric, but it can offer some solutions and features that will draw attention. Those are Extract Mode and Crab Walk, cool upgrades for the off-road drive.
It is early to talk about the range. This technology is evolving fast, so even the truckmaker is not making estimations for now. The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado electric will also offer state-of-art functions, such as the Ultra Drive autonomous drive system. The towing capacity needs to meet truckers’ demands, which brings the most questions. Not only GM, but other companies are yet to develop a system that balances the hauling capacity and the mileage.
Diesel vs Hybrid System
We can find several sources speaking about a hybrid configuration for the 2025 Chevy Silverado. It probably won’t happen, having in mind moves in recent years. General Motors is not building hybrids at all, and it cost them a lot of sales. Other companies are bragging about the improvements such systems are offering.
Anyway, Chevrolet and other brands in the family will go straight to the EV market. A clean source of power is on the bandwagon nowadays. But, the truckmaker still keeps a diesel setup. A 3.0-liter Duramax engine can deliver 277 hp and 460 lb-ft, for the best-in-class towing capacity. The 2025 Chevy Silverado diesel beats the competition with 12,500 pounds. The situation is the same with Silverado 3500, whose huge V8 turbodiesel helps the heavy-duty model haul more than 36,000 lbs! That is the main reason why Chevrolet is not dropping oil burners yet.
Chevy Silverado – Years to Avoid
The nameplate is at the market for a long time. The history is long and there were a lot of ups and downs. Silverado builds an image of a durable and reliable worker. But, there were some editions with failures and recalls. For example, owners of the 2014 YM were very unhappy with AC issues. Even after the revisit, the following model was not too much better. Trucks from 2019 edition had some problems with brakes and seat belts, which are the reason to avoid them. Back in 2007, Silverado had some brake defects. The company tried to fix it and a few other things, but the 2008 YM turned out to be probably the worst one and definitely the vehicle we recommend dodging.
2025 Chevy Silverado Release Date
While expecting the news about the facelift, we can say that the powertrain lineup will stay pretty much the same. The Silverado EV production is yet to start. It could also mean the discontinuation of a diesel engine. A 2.7-liter turbo-four is the new base configuration and there are a couple of V8s for the best performance and towing capacity.
New features and accessories will be available across all the trim levels. The price will go up, especially after the mid-cycle update. The first EVs can be reserved for $39,900. The entry-level Regular Cab will also cost around $40k. Double and Crew Cab are more popular options. High Country is a premium package with plenty of advanced features. The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 will compete with the Ford Raptor. Still, Chevrolet is missing a high-output truck that can rival Ram’s and Ford’s models with 700 horsepower. For now, General Motors is not interested in competing at this level.
