The Camaro had a sales success when it was reintroduced in 2010, usually selling over 80,000 cars per year. The increased demand for a V8 Camaro and the innovative, retro-inspired design of the 5th generation were also contributing factors. Of course, it helped that the vehicle was enjoying a great deal of popularity thanks to the newest Transformers film series. This inspired a number of Bumblebee clones and even a special Chevrolet model, which was not a minor deal. The new Camaros were a big sales success for GM for all of these reasons. As a 2016 model, the sixth-generation Camaro first appeared in dealerships in late 2015. It was promoted as being lighter, more compact, and sportier than the 5th-gen because it was built on the more recent Alpha platform. With only 51,000 vehicles sold in 2018, sales never reached the same levels as the 5th generation.

After all, the production would be streamlined as both engines are made at the same location. However, it would also need the Camaro to go through a new cycle of emissions validations.
